No two clients are the same although they may present with similar issues, therefore I tailor my approach according to the individual, not their symptoms alone. My Psychosynthesis psychotherapy training underpins all my interventions as it teaches us to see the individual as a whole being rather than our psychopathology. Symptoms are therefore sign posts that can lead us towards greater understanding and wholeness so that we have the freedom to express ourselves as fully as we can, rather than symptoms merely being problems we need to be rid of so that we can function again.

I have had a private therapeutic practice since and have worked in the healing profession for almost 30 years. I also offer Somatic Experiencing SE and EMDR which are stand alone trauma release therapies specifically for PTSD and other forms of trauma such as developmental trauma or where there have been traumatic events such as an accident, domestic violence, sexual abuse, etc. With consent, I tend to include SE as part of my general therapeutic practice, as I find it to be a very powerful way to heal deep underlying issues that can often be missed in talking therapy alone.

I also offer EMDR. This can be discussed on request as it is a very specific approach to working. Again, there are occasions when I offer this as an option to clients if I feel that it would be of benefit to the healing process. I offer short term counselling and long term psychotherapy dependent on the support you require for your particular issue. I also provide coaching and creative mentoring for clients who have a specific project in mind that they want support in birthing.

I teach meditation and mindfulness as well as creative visualisation techniques which are deeply supportive approaches in helping clients recognise and cultivate their own innate natural wisdom. Many clients experience this approach alongside therapy as an empowering tool particularly in times of stress, anxiety and crisis. Mindfulness techniques help to foster remaining steady and present rather than becoming overwhelmed by ones emotions and external circumstances.

As an experienced addictions therapist I support those struggling with compulsive and addictive behaviours including working with 12 Step Programmes, which together with therapy are a powerful healing combination. Addiction is a complex issue which is particularly prevalent in our current times. It can rob the individual of a sense of self and wellbeing leaving them feeling powerless and unmanageable around their particular addiction.

However, in my experience with the appropriate support it can be halted, one day at a time, restoring dignity, self esteem and wellbeing. As far back as I can remember I have always been fascinated by people; ideas about people; and the meanings we make of our world, and after many years in education I turned to the training offered at the Institute.

Transactional Leadership Theory

There was the beginning of a very important journey. Life throws up many challenges, especially in our health and our relationships, and whether we are alone or sharing our life with another, we can sometimes experience fear…doubt; the deepest love…. We can feel lost…and belong; find joy for life but also experience addiction, depression and paralysing anxiety. There are times when we grow and thrive but other times when we can feel destroyed by life, by what happens to us, and around us. With our sense of separateness and connection to others; with hopes dreams and our suffering.

My approach blends the wisdom of ancient teachings with the most contemporary theory in depth psychological and neuroscience. I provide a peaceful space at home, skills and experience for you to explore issues and symptoms that have led you to seek help. After a spiritual awakening early on in my life, I began practicing meditation, and followed a call to support people living at the end of life. My now 20 years of experience as a senior Palliative Care Nurse has helped me support people in crises and transition with an open heart, calmness, pragmatism and humour.

Some issues I have worked with are: anxiety, stress, depression, bereavement, relationship issues, living with disability, living with life limiting illness, impact of childhood trauma, suicidal thoughts, concerns around addictions, struggles to connect to body or feelings, sexual expression and identity, existential and spiritual dilemmas, struggling to realise ideals and goals, and looking for meaning, purpose and direction. The sessions are mostly talking therapy, and also use the imagination and body as resources, through guided visualisation, body awareness, and drawing with crayons.

It takes a great deal of courage to recognise and acknowledge to ourselves that we are suffering and struggling to cope with life. Most of us remain hidden to ourselves going through our lives as if we are asleep on automation enduring rather than living. Alongside my core training in psychosynthesis I have completed a Certificate in Counselling Skills for Children using the Arts, several weekends training in Somatic Experience and Psychosynthesis, a Certificate in working with Couples. I worked in education for many years before embarking on my psychotherapy training and my hunger to know more and deepen my practice has never left me. I have subsequently become a supervisor, coach and latterly Sensorimotor psychotherapist working with trauma and the body. I work holistically, with the whole person, and the whole of life. I have spent the last 25 years providing mainstream psychological services in the UK and the USA within victim services, the criminal justice system, social care and the education system. As a qualifying psychospiritual practitioner, I am insured and registered through APP. I remain under statutory supervision at the Institute of Psychosynthesis London founded under the care and guidance of Italian psychiatrist, Roberto Assagioli. Since its development, it has also been used for the treatment of other kinds of mental health disorders.

DBT skills include skills for mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Problematic behaviours evolve as a way to cope with a situation or attempt to solve a problem. DBT assumes that clients are doing they best they can, AND they need to learn new behaviours in all relevant contexts.

These skills help people develop effective ways to navigate situations that arise in everyday life or manage specific challenges. I have been in practise for 20 years and have practising privileges at several Priory Hospitals in the South East. I provide client-focused counselling with a psycho-spiritual orientation and work with a full range of client issues from those that constellate around crisis to those that represent the challenge of awakening — particularly since these experiences are often connected.

I work with clients facing life events such as: relationship issues, intimacy and sexuality, issues of gender and sexual identity, fatherhood, parenting in difficult circumstances, life transitions, dislocation and belonging. Often these issues prompt feelings of distress in the form of emotional pain, disappointment, guilt, shame, anxiety, grief, anger, depression, emotional numbness or lack of empathy.

No life is entirely without suffering and seeking help often means transforming a painful issue into a new source of hope. Conversely, clients may choose to work with me in order to explore personal development, leadership and self-assertiveness, creativity, decision-making and purpose.

I accept there is wisdom in the acronym, but I think the process tends to eclipse the most important things about performance objectives: they should provide clarity, challenge and motivation, and when delivered they should add value to the organisation. Online learning in quick and easy to access, cheap, flexible and covers a massive variety of topics. There are many aspects to cultural identity. It could be about communication style, about different assumptions and understandings of appropriate respectful behaviour, about things that can or cannot be said, about approaches to issues like hierarchy, age and gender.

People might find your carefully planned activities to be deeply inappropriate, or maybe they find it difficult to challenge others or be open to challenge themselves, making your heated debate segment fall a tad flat. All of this cultural diversity business puts a host of precarious obstacles in your way. You want them to engage with the course and the other learners, you want them to enjoy the experience, and of course most importantly you want them to learn.
