The challenge I found — at least in the early days — was taking the help on offer. Too often God sends help and we refuse to take it because of our pride.

Yet, we continue to keep on praying for His intervention! Here is a truth worth thinking about today: our pain may be bringing about a deep healing in our souls over time. It may also be used for the benefit of brothers and sisters in our local church as they find deep hope and blessing in ministering to us.

None of it will go to waste. You must be logged in to post a comment. How, then should we encourage those suffering through chronic pain? Keep looking to Christ. When we view our suffering though a Christ centred filter hard, I know then this affects how we interpret and view life as a whole.

Why You Shouldn't Just "Claim Your Healing" When Living With Chronic Pain

Persistent, consistent and chronic pain forces us to look up and not down. We need God every single day to sustain us.

We are not like a car that needs the tank filling once or twice a month. We need to fill up on his love, grace and mercies, which are new and available to us every morning. As we look to Christ daily we learn to rely on Him, find our comfort and strength in Him and, somehow, find what we need to keep on going in Him.

The suffering Christ is faithful to His suffering servants! I know this might not sound like encouragement on the surface, but God uses situations like this to bring sinful heart issues to the fore so that He can deal with them and we can grow more like Christ. We cannot allow chronic pain to be used as an excuse for anxiety and a lack of trust in God. I know my own heart is lazy and, to be honest, being in constant pain offers me a plausible excuse to indulge in my laziness.

I could grumble, whinge, moan and throw myself the best pity party on the planet, but I still have to face up to, and own, my personal sin. God often uses our suffering to bring to the surface the sin s in our lives that need dealing in order to drive us back to Him in repentance and prayer. There is a purpose somewhere.

I know this to be true but is it really? Why chronic pain?

Your Viewing History

Why not a bit of suffering? We know that from history, many people derived their names by what they did for a living. For instance, those named "Smith" came from generations of blacksmiths. Think of it! God says that His name is "The Lord that heals you! Does this mean everyone will be healed? Obviously, not everyone receives healing in this present life, and all of us will eventually die in our mortal bodies. But even when a believer passes away and goes to Heaven, there they experience God's ultimate gift of healing, as they will never again have any more illness, pain or death.

Jesus, however, didn't focus his teachings on "what if it doesn't happen," but upon the possibilities of what God can do through faith. I can't speculate why some sincere believers haven't experienced divine healing, while others have Only the Lord can give us those kind of answers when we reach Heaven.

But what we do know from scripture, is that Jesus taught His followers to "believe," to take Him at His Word. And he says, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes" Mark Five Steps to Receive Healing from God. Any affliction should be a time for self-examination, to come before the Lord in humility, surrendering yourself and drawing near to Him.

James wrote, "Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up" James
